RESTEK WEBINAR SERIES

  • Date: 16 November 2020
  • Time: 2:00 pm CET
  • Topic: Simplify and Expedite Multi-Residue Pesticide Testing in Foods
  • Presenter: Joe Konschnik, Business Development Manager for Food Market
  • Summary: Pesticides are ubiquitously used to help increase crop yields; however, they can pose risks for public health and beneficial insects. As our food moves around the planet through supply-chains government agencies, food manufacturers and independent testing labs must adapt to keep pace with demand for testing a growing variety of foods and pesticides. Faster and simpler multi-residue pesticide screening workflows, which combine simpler sample preparation techniques yielding higher recoveries with lower detection limits are often sought after. Accomplishing these goals increases sample throughput and reduces costs. This webinar will offer a variety of sample preparation and analysis approaches available to develop rugged and sensitive methods for the analysis of more than 200 pesticides in fruits, vegetables, grain, honey and botanicals using both GC-MS/MS and LC-MS/MS. Data and results illustrating recoveries for pesticides in representative matrices, spiked with pesticides at levels as low as 10 ppb will be presented. An overview of the QuEChERS sample preparation procedure, including extraction and clean-up steps followed by analysis with various analytical instrumentation platforms will be presented. Modifying the QuEChERS sample preparation procedure for a variety of high and low water, high fat, high pigment, sugar and acid containing commodities and dried botanicals will also be discussed.

  • Time: 10:00 am CET
  • Topic: HPLC Troubleshooting, Part I
  • Presenter: Cyrille Lamboley, LC Specialist
  • Summary: As a HPLC user, did you ever experience bad peak shape, sudden pressure rise, or a drifting baseline? There are multiple factors that may cause those issues, and we need to take the time to analyze them well, and understand them in order to bring the right corrections. In this session we will cover the major chromatographic issues, possible causes and solutions.

  • Date: 1 December 2020
  • Time: 10:00 am CET
  • Topic: HPLC Troubleshooting, Part II
  • Presenter: Cyrille Lamboley, LC Specialist
  • Summary: Tailing peaks, pressure rise, baseline drift; most of those issues are not caused by the HPLC column. Let’s analyze those problems in order to understand them and bring the adequate correction. In this second session, we will cover the most common issues: peak shape (tailing, fronting…), baseline drift, instability of the retention time.

  • Time: 10:00 am CET
  • Topic: Tips and Tricks for Handling Reference Standards
  • Presenter: Doerte Lohrbert, Reference Standards Specialist
  • Summary: Reference standards must perform at a consistent level each and every time you use them. Variations in analyte concentration can disrupt analyses, impede your lab’s workflow, and lead to wasted time and money. Restek’s Certificates of Analysis offer comprehensive information to help you understand the composition, proper storage conditions, and method of shipment for your reference standard. In this presentation, we’ll explain the terms given on the certificate, discuss when you might need to apply uncertainty values, and clarify why we provide them. We’ll also explore how to safely store and properly prepare your reference standards for use along with what else you need to keep in mind to ensure the long-term integrity of your standards.
